Derik Calhoun scored two touchdowns in the first half, including one on a 40-yard run late in the first quarter, to help lead the El Cerrito High football team to a 19-7 win over Bishop O'Dowd on Saturday night in the North Coast Section Division III quarterfinals at De Anza High in Richmond.
The top-seeded Gauchos, who improved to 12-0 with the victory, now take on No. 5 Analy in the semifinals next week.
El Cerrito got on the board early on as Adarius Pickett scored on a 3-yard run with 8:58 left in the first quarter. But Bishop O'Dowd answered right back as Antonio Burnette scored on a 13-yard run with 5:41 to go in the first quarter.
Calhoun's touchdown, though, gave the Gauchos the lead for good. Then Keilan Benjamin gave El Cerrito a 12-point lead at halftime with his 9-yard run with 8:02 to go in the first half.
El Cerrito came into Saturday's game having scored at least 42 points in each of its last seven games, including last week's 56-8 win over Kennedy-Fremont in the first round. Bishop O'Dowd ended its season at 7-5.
Marin Catholic-Kentfield 59, Miramonte 6: Senior Cal-bound quarterback Jared Goff threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns as the host Wildcats stormed past the Matadors in the Division III quarterfinals.
The game, much like the afternoon, started pleasantly enough for the Matadors (7-5). On the first play from scrimmage under sunny skies, Miramonte quarterback
Drew Anderson connected with wide receiver Zati Williams for an 82-yard touchdown.By the time the rain started midway through the third quarter, Goff was already watching the action from the sidelines with the Wildcats leading 38-6.
"I know it's a clich?, but you play like you practice," said Goff, who completed his first five passes including touchdown tosses of 54 and 15 yards. "And this week, we probably had our best week of practice all year."
The Wildcats (11-1) dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage. Goff, who clicked on 15 of 19 passes, was touched only once by the Miramonte pass rush, on a 3-yard sack.
Marin Catholic's ground game, led by Akili Terry's 128 yards, rolled up 208 rushing yards and racked up 511 yards of total offense.
On the other side of the ball, Marin Catholic intercepted Anderson five times, including a 57-yard pick-six by Anthony Giusti.

St. Helena 29, Salesian 25: St. Helena senior lineman Francisco Otero's late fourth-quarter interception sealed the victory for the Saints in the second round of the NCS Division IV playoffs.
The No. 6 Saints (11-1) host No. 10 San Martin next Saturday in the semifinals. For host Salesian, the two-time defending Division IV champion, the loss halted its postseason win streak at seven games.
The Pride led for a majority of the game, but a third-quarter surge from the Saints turned the tide.
With his team trailing 19-15, St. Helena's Danny Brink ran 52 yards for a touchdown, giving the Saints their first lead of the game. Later, Matteo Abreu returned an interception 56 yards to put the Saints up 29-19.
Third-seeded Salesian responded shortly before the fourth quarter on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Zach Boyett to Tyrone Morgan -- the duo's third scoring connection of the day. Morgan finished with seven catches for 175 yards.
Before leaving with an injury, St. Helena quarterback Richard Hoppe passed for 125 yards and ran for 43 more, including an 11-yard touchdown sprint.
Salesian's De'Angelo Hernandez ran for 103 yards, including a 79-yard first-quarter touchdown run.

St. Vincent-Petaluma 13, California School for the Deaf 12: The Eagles' season came to an end as Patrick Garcia caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Mitch Sheppard with 1:05 left as visiting St. Vincent came away with a victory in the Division V semifinals.
Garcia's touchdown capped an eight-play, 30-yard drive that was set up by Zach Smith's blocked punt by with 3:39 remaining.
With the victory, the third-seeded Mustangs (10-2) advance to play No. 1 Ferndale next Saturday at Humboldt State. The No. 2 Eagles finished their season at 10-2 -- a school record for most wins in a season.
Eagles senior running back Brian Freeman ran for 267 yards on 35 carries. But CSD was done in by six turnovers, including three lost fumbles.
In the second half, the Mustangs twice moved inside the Eagles' 20, but the CSD defense held its ground as Carlos Lopez had an interception and St. Vincent turned the ball over on downs.
Freeman opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 52-yard scamper down the sideline. After Derek Murphy tied the score at 6-6 on a 1-yard plunge for the Mustangs, Freeman put the Eagles back on top late in the first half.
He broke three tackles before exploding up the middle for a 42-yard touchdown run to give CSD a 12-6 halftime lead.
