Bloodthirsty Liberal ? A Consultant For Obama 2012 Reads Us!

Oh, he or she is a few days late, and apparently doesn?t realize that we are a small blog and not worth the time, but this sort of TLC happens during elections and it is always entertaining. If you?ve missed the recent stuff, let me update you.

We first heard from what I assume is a consultant for Obama 2012 when I posted a piece about the relationship between the loss of unemployment insurance and the alarming increase in new disability claims. As people are losing their unemployment coverage, and still can?t find jobs in ObamaEconomy, they turn to disability coverage. He wrote to suggest that these two factors were not somehow connected. Uh huh.

Next I put up a little piece about how Obama is calling for some kind of change in discipline procedures in the public schools, and how Maryland has recently instituted a plan called for racial parity in punishment (discipline) in their public schools. They will be requiring schools to put out race-based reports on who is skipping school and who is being sent to study hall or suspended. My view is that African Americans are Americans and that tearing our society to shreds, race by race, incident by incident, is damaging to the United States, almost to biblical proportions. Anyway, a few days after I posted, our consultant wrote back. I think he proves my point. So I will re-post his comments in full:

I need to share some facts that this post should correct. The actual name of what Obama supports is ?The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans?, not The Making Punishment Fair Policy.

Nowhere does that initiative suggest that ?Obama supports disciplining children according to race?. The announcement did state:

?To deliver a complete and competitive education for all African Americans, the Initiative will promote, encourage, and undertake efforts designed to meet several objectives, including:

? Increasing the percentage of African American children who enter kindergarten ready for success by improving access to high-quality early learning and development programs;
? Ensuring that all African American students have access to high-level, rigorous course work and support services that will prepare them for college, a career, and civic participation;
? Providing African American students with equitable access to effective teachers and principals in pursuit of a high-quality education, and supporting efforts to improve the recruitment, preparation, development, and retention of successful African American teachers and principals;
? Promoting a positive school climate that does not rely on methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools, and decreasing the disproportionate number of referrals to special education by addressing root causes of the referrals;
? Reducing the dropout rate of African American students and increasing the proportion of African American students who graduate from high school prepared for college and career;
? Increasing college access, college persistence, and college attainment for African American students;
? Strengthening the capacity of institutions of higher education that serve large numbers of African American students, including community colleges, HBCUs, Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs), and other institutions; and
? Improving the quality of, and expanding access to, adult education, literacy, and career and technical education.?

Your original mention of this subject on July27th included the following:

?Because of those causes, the report suggests, ?over a third of African American students do not graduate from high school on time with a regular high school diploma, and only four percent of African American high school graduates interested in college are college-ready across a range of subjects.??

This passage was attributed to the presidents announcement; AFAIK, it doesn?t appear anywhere in it.

That 7-27 post also changed topics, rather smoothly, from Obama to a totally separate story about Maryland. To those who had no knowledge of the second story, there was the chance they missed the shift in topic and or context.

Your post today states: ?Maryland is implementing this policy?, where ?this? is a direct reference to the Obama initiative. The actions in Maryland have no connection to the White House, so that is an incorrect claim.

I?m glad you introduced these topics on your blog, although they each deserve their own separate entry to avoid confusion. I reading the stories here, I was intrigued to want to learn more, and followed each of them to get the all important details necessary for understanding them. Thanks for opening these doors for my look at these two areas of education changes.

Aggie, why do you think this is written by a consultant? Because he has no sense of humor. Making Punishment Fair Policy is a play on the failed: Making Work Pay Policy? whatever that meant. At least Making Punishment Fair means something. It means that we are going to do careful measurement of skin tone (not unlike the Nazis using calipers to get exact measures of nose sizes, widths, nostril openings), and then we are going to punish mathematically, according to a fair distribution of ?racial? attributes. Johnny threw a spit ball, but Johnny is African American and too many of them have served time in after-school suspension, so he gets away with it. His partner in crime, Joey, is Asian and he will be serving time because Asians are under-represented in the discipline statistics for the month of May? Both Johnny and Joey will be upset, because they will both know that this is unfair. Also, they will glean that adult are fools.

The larger point that the consultant graciously makes for all of our readers is that the obsession with race is real and it is happening in the Obama White House. African Americans are not the only people stuck in lousy schools. The real question is not about the race of the students, but about what can be done to help them. It is often said that the definition of insanity is repeating the same failed techniques again and again and expecting a different results. The talking points offered by the consultant are just that ? crazy making.

Simply put: Are African American students better off today than they were four years ago?

No, they are in worse shape in The Age Of Obama. No amount of blah-blah from the White House changes that.

And thanks for opening up this very important conversation!

- Aggie

Delays hit London Olympic transport system

Alastair Jamieson / NBC News

A sign at Stratford train station, at the Olympic Park in East London, warns travelers of the suspension of Central Line trains.

By NBC News and wire reports

Updated at 5:39 a.m. ET: LONDON --?Olympic spectators traveling to the Games in London faced delays Tuesday after a faulty train temporarily forced the closure of one of the busiest underground links to the Olympic Park.

There have been concerns over whether London's public transport system, the busiest in Europe, would be able to handle the rush of spectators attending the Games.

The system appeared to cope well with the crowds on Monday.

A smoke alert halts subway service on London's Central Line which transports thousands of spectators to the tube stop at Olympic Park. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

Operator Transport for London told NBC News in a statement that the Central Line service, which stretches east to west across the city, was temporarily halted east of Liverpool Street station on Tuesday after a driver reported smelling smoke.

The driver's train was taken out of service at Leyton, one stop to the east of the Stratford station which is being used as the hub for people arriving at the Olympic Park.

Billions at stake as Apple, Samsung face off in court

By Reuters

Jury selection is scheduled to begin on Monday morning in a high stakes patent battle between Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, the culmination of over a year of pretrial jousting with billions of dollars in the balance.

Apple and Samsung, the world's largest consumer electronics corporations, are waging legal war around the world, accusing each other of patent violations as they vie for supremacy in a fast-growing market for mobile devices.

The fight began last year when Apple sued Samsung in a San Jose, Calif.,?federal court, accusing the South Korean company of slavishly copying the iPhone and iPad. Samsung countersued.

The stakes are high, with Samsung facing potential U.S. sales bans of its Galaxy smartphones and tablet computers, and Apple in a pivotal test of its worldwide patent litigation strategy.

Apple will try to use Samsung documents to show its rival knowingly violated the iPhone maker's intellectual property rights, while Samsung argues Apple is trying to stifle competition to maintain "exorbitant" profit, according to court filings.

A 10-member jury will hear evidence over at least four weeks, and it must reach a unanimous decision for Apple or Samsung to prevail on any of their claims.

That the jurors will hail from Silicon Valley, where Apple is an icon and major employer, will be something for Samsung to consider during the jury selection, said James Dobson, a jury consultant with Empirical Creative.

"Although certainly if I were Samsung I would be concerned about what prospective jurors think about Apple, given that it's a huge employer there," Dobson said, "by and large jurors want to do right thing and decide the case on the merits."

It has been tough going so far for Samsung in the case. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh halted U.S. sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, giving Apple a significant early win. This was followed by a pretrial ban on the Galaxy Nexus phone. Samsung has appealed both orders.

The trial is expected to last at least four weeks.

The case in U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, is Apple Inc v. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd et al, No. 11-1846.

Ross Levinsohn Out At Yahoo - Business Insider

Former interim CEO Ross Levinsohn is leaving Yahoo, Kara Swisher reports.

Levinsohn ran Yahoo's sales, business development, and media divisions.

After Scott Thompson got the boot for lying on his resume, Levinsohn ran the company for a few months.

Many Yahoo insiders, shareholders, advertisers, and industry partners were excited by the prospect of Levinsohn holding the job long term, but Yahoo's board went out and made a very splashy hire ? bringing in a famous ex-Googler, Marissa Mayer.

Now Yahoo is Mayer's show, and she has a different vision for the company than the one Levinsohn had.

He was going to focus on making it the "world's premier digital media company;" her goal is to have Yahoo create products that consumers use once a day.

In an email announcing his departure, Levinsohn says:?

It has been an incredible journey for me and I could not be prouder of what we accomplished over the past few years helping define Yahoo as a leader in digital media and advertising. ? Yahoo is an amazing brand and company, and I leave knowing we did all we could to help inform and entertain more than 700 million users each month. ?Leading this company has been one of the best experiences of my career, but it is time for me to look for the next challenge. ?

Likewise, Mayer has a memo out:

Subject: Thank You to Ross Levinsohn

I am writing to let you know that Ross Levinsohn will be leaving the company at the end of July.

Ross has been an important and powerful contributor at Yahoo since he joined in 2010. During May and June, Ross stepped into an incredibly tough role as interim CEO and did a terffic job ? he really helped keep the company moving, closed important deals, and assembled a very talented team. I am very grateful to Ross for his leadership and work throughout his tenure at Yahoo. His contributions will be missed.

Ross will be in Sunnyvale tomorrow (Tuesday, July 31). Please take the opportunity to drop by and thank him for all he has done for the company. I hope you can join me in wishing Ross well and letting him know how much you?ve appreciated him as a colleague.

Marissa

The biggest question following Levinsohn's departure is whether or not his many reports at Yahoo will follow him out the door. Levinsohn loyalists include business development commando Jim Heckman, ad sales chief Wayne Powers, media leader Mickie Rosen, and new monetization boss Michael Barrett.

Less Than a Week Remains Before NASA's Biggest Rover Yet Lands on Mars

NASA's newest Mars rover is less than a week away from its high-stakes landing on the surface of the Red Planet.

The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Curiosity rover is scheduled to touch down on Mars at 10:30 p.m. PDT on Aug. 5 (1:30 a.m. Aug. 6 EDT, 0530 GMT). The car-size robotic explorer is designed to investigate whether Mars is, or ever was, capable of hosting microbial life.

With six days to go until Curiosity arrives at the Red Planet, project managers are bracing themselves for what NASA calls the riskiest part of the mission: the rover's harrowing descent through the Martian atmosphere to the ground.

John Grunsfeld, associate administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, took part in a news briefing on July 16 to discuss the MSL mission. He called Curiosity's landing "risky business."

"The Curiosity landing is the hardest NASA robotic mission ever attempted in the history of exploration of Mars, or any of our robot exploration," Grunsfeld said.

When Curiosity reaches Mars, the 1-ton rover will be lowered to the surface by a rocket-powered sky crane. This complex contraption will help slow the spacecraft's speed from roughly 13,200 mph (about 21,250 kilometers per hour) to zero in only seven minutes. This sequence of events is officially known as entry, descent and landing, but its nail-biting nature has earned it the nickname "seven minutes of terror."

This type of unprecedented landing was selected because Curiosity is much larger than any previous rover that has been sent to the Red Planet. Curiosity's sheer size ruled out the possibility of orchestrating an airbag-assisted landing.

Once the rover's wheels touch down on the Martian surface, the sky crane will detach itself, fly off and land a safe distance away from Curiosity. [How Curiosity's Nail-Biting Landing Works (Pictures)]

The $2.5 billion rover will land in Gale Crater, where an enormous mountain called Mount Sharp rises from the center of the impact basin. As Curiosity treks around Gale Crater, and eventually climbs Mount Sharp, the rover will look for clues of past water activity in the region.

Mission scientists are also keen to see what Curiosity finds as it climbs Mount Sharp, where layers of rock have essentially preserved the planet's changing environmental conditions, stretching as far back as a billion years or more.

Curiosity is equipped with a suite of 10 instruments that will enable it to dig, take high-definition pictures, analyze chemical properties of Martian soil and rock samples, study minerals, and even shoot a laser at rocks to probe their chemical composition.

Conservative Investing Procedures That Are Long Term | Custom Hats

Bonds, Debentures and preference shares are often considered long term investments because they take a while to grow. This is often how many people plan to save money for their future. The following are several reliable options that could help your approach to long term investing.

German minister rejects talk of Spain aid request

BERLIN (AP) ? Germany's finance minister is rejecting talk of a possible application from Spain for the eurozone's bailout fund to buy the struggling country's bonds, a newspaper reported Saturday.

This week, European Central Bank head Mario Draghi promised to do "whatever it takes" to preserve the euro. The German and French leaders then said that they were "determined to do everything to protect the eurozone."

Neither mentioned any specific action. But those comments raised expectations that the ECB ? or the eurozone's temporary rescue fund, the European Financial Stability Facility ? might step in to buy Spanish government bonds and lower the country's borrowing costs, which have been at worryingly high levels in recent weeks.

Still, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble was quoted as telling the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that Spain's short-term financing needs are "not so big."

Asked about talk that Spain could soon make an application for the eurozone rescue fund to buy bonds, he replied: "There is nothing to this speculation."

"The high interest rates are painful and they create a lot of concern ? but it's not the end of the world if one has to pay a few percent more at a few bond auctions," Schaeuble was quoted as saying.

He added that an aid package worth up to ?100 billion ($123 billion) to help Spain's banks, which are laden with soured investments following a property sector collapse, is "sufficiently large." Spain's budget-cutting and economic reform efforts will have positive effects, "on the financial markets too," he insisted.

Spanish officials have been adamant that the country, the eurozone's fourth-largest economy, will not seek a full-scale bailout along the lines of those given to Portugal and Ireland as it battles with a persistent recession.

Luke Rockhold to Throw Out First Pitch at Oakland A?s Game

You know you've made it as an athlete when a Major League Baseball team asks you to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at one of their games.? Such is the case with Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold.? Two weeks ago, Rockhold was handling challenger Tim Kennedy in the cage; on Monday, he gets to drop by the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and put one across home plate (the A's are playing the Tampa Bay Rays, if that means anything to you).? Of course, this isn't the first time that an MMA fighter has been granted this honor.? Other examples include:

  • UFC light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones, who threw out the first pitch for a San Diego Padres game back in July, 2010.

?

  • Former UFC light-heavyweight champ Rashad Evans, who tossed one out for a Miami Marlins game in June of this year.

?

  • Former UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin, who did the honors for a Cincinnati Reds game.

?

  • Former UFC welterweight star Chris Lytle, who threw one home for a Los Angeles Dodgers game.

?

  • Former WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres, who did one up for the Chicago White Sox.

?

  • Strikeforce fighter K.J. Noons, who rocketed one home for a Houston Astros game.

?

  • UFC light-heavyweight fighter Brandon Vera, who did the same for a Padres game earlier this month.

?

You know what.? Now that I think about it, this whole throwing-out-the-ceremonial-first-pitch thing isn't that special after all.? As you were.

Jim Genia tweets here and wrote this book.? Believe that!

Billie Joe Armstrong joins NBC's 'Voice' as mentor

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? NBC's "The Voice" is adding a high-powered rocker to the mix.

NBC said Thursday that Green Day vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong has joined the talent contest as a mentor to Christina Aguilera's team this coming season.

In a statement, Armstrong said he and his family are fans of the show.

"The Voice" has won over viewers because "it's not molding artists, it's just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover," he said.

Besides, Armstrong says, working with Aguilera is "a lot of fun." He started taping Wednesday on "The Voice," which has been in production for season three since June.

As the talent contest field grows more crowded, shows are competing for big-name music stars. "American Idol" is adding Mariah Carey as a judge, and "The X Factor" signed Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.

"The Voice" returns Sept. 10.

That's good timing for Green Day: The band has three albums coming out in quick succession, with the first, "Uno!", to be released Sept. 25.

In addition to Aguilera, the show's coaches include Cee-Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Carson Daly is the host.

(AP Photo/Ed Andrieski)

(AP) ? As police officers pleaded for all available medics to converge on the scene of the Colorado movie theater massacre last week, a two-man ambulance crew and their rig were idling just a few miles away.

While some ambulances were quickly called to duty, it took dispatchers more than 20 minutes into the crisis to ask the Cunningham Fire Protection District and other nearby agencies to provide aid at the multiplex in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

By the time the Cunningham crew arrived, it was more than a half hour after authorities got first word that a gunman opened fire at a packed midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 people and injuring dozens of others.

Radio traffic from last Friday showed emergency personnel struggling to grasp both the scope of the tragedy and mobilize a response. The ambulance delays came during crucial minutes for the injured victims, though it's not clear whether a faster response would have saved more lives.

Officials have declined so far to release call records of the response, and the Aurora Fire Department declined to discuss the handling of ambulances from that night.

Experienced emergency responders say no response will ever be perfect. Residents in the Denver area are well aware of the turmoil that comes with mass tragedies, as police were criticized in 1999 for waiting outside Columbine High School instead of immediately pursuing two gunmen who went on a killing rampage inside.

"You always find things that you can improve the next time," said Robert Finn, a retired police and fire chief from the Dallas area who added that officials will usually conduct a post-incident analysis after big tragedies.

On the police radio transmissions, officers said they lacked sufficient medical support for about 30 minutes after the 911 calls came flooding in around 12:39 a.m. and that medical teams didn't report getting inside the theater for about 24 minutes. It wasn't clear whether police efforts to secure the multiplex contributed to the delay in getting medical teams inside.

Dispatchers began their response by quickly sending one ambulance to the scene, followed by another about three and a half minutes into the response. A third ambulance soon followed.

Over the next several minutes, first responders reported on the extent of the casualties, calling in the numbers of wounded in their areas: One said three were shot in one location. Another said someone was shot twice in the back. A third asked that rescue personnel go into the theater to help "multiple victims."

About nine minutes in, one officer in an urgent voice declared bluntly: "I need as many ambulances as we can." Four had been dispatched at that time, according to one person on the scanner traffic.

An officer said he was going to take a victim in his car.

Eleven minutes in, a first responder again barks: "Dispatch, get me some ambulances!" A coordinator replied that Rural/Metro ? the private ambulance provider for the area that also declined comment on the response ? was sending all available units in Aurora.

The Cunningham unit, however, had not been called and sat idle for 10 more minutes. The department operates separately from Aurora officials but coordinates with them on a near-daily basis.

District Fire Chief Jerry Rhodes said one of his units on duty that night had no idea about the turmoil unfolding a few miles away, in part, because they were likely sleeping due to the 24-hour-long shifts they typically staff.

Rhodes said the district's crew, including one paramedic and one emergency medical technician, received the plea for help at 1 a.m. ? about 21 minutes after officers first began rushing to the scene.

Denver Health Paramedics, which had two ambulances on the eastern side of Denver that is closest to Aurora, got its call to provide support three minutes after Cunningham. One of the units was eight minutes away.

West Metro Fire Rescue also got a similar call to send medical support ? 15 minutes after the Cunningham request.

Medical teams that were first to arrive appeared to deal with the wounded as they came upon them, which meant first handling the moviegoers who made it outside. That left other severely wounded patients inside the facility.

While fire officials in Aurora declined to comment about how they responded, Deputy Chief Chris Henderson told reporters after a brief memorial service Wednesday night that the firefighters did an incredible job.

"The lives that were saved that night. That's the comfort you take from this," Henderson said.

Scot Phelps, an experienced paramedic who works at an emergency management academy in New York, said it was clear that the lack of ambulance transport was a problem in Aurora. He said that could be due in large part to the structure of modern emergency systems, which he said are poorly funded, leaving few ambulances readily available.

Before the aid call went out to the other agencies, officers repeatedly implored dispatchers for more medical support and bemoaned the resources they had at their disposal. At one point, they also asked for an accounting of what resources were on the way.

"To be honest with you, sir, I don't know an exact count of ambulances," one person said. They added that two more ambulances were getting dispatched then.

Over the span of 10 minutes, officials mentioned multiple times the situation of a child who they could not evacuate from the theater and needed rescue. About 15 minutes in, one officer asked whether he had permission to take victims with his car.

"I have a whole bunch of people shot out here and no rescue," he said in a hurried tone. The response came immediately: "Yes, load them up, get them in cars and get them out of here."

At 18 and 20 minutes in, police coordinators repeated their calls for more medical assistance. At 27 minutes, an officer was still reporting that they were loading patients into the back of patrol cars. "Any ambos we could get would be nice," he said.

Thirty minutes into the chaos, an on-scene commander made a final, exasperated plea. He asked about Cunningham's resources and whether another private company in the area ? AMR.

"Anybody else that's in the area that we can contact?" he asked. "Maybe Cunningham? Somebody that we can get a hold of? AMR? Anybody?"

The response came back from a woman's voice that sounding equally worn. "We're working on finding additional transport rigs to assist us with transporting from the scene," she said.

The Urban Gospel Mission ? COHABITATION IS PRACTICING FOR ...

A recent study shows that 2/3 of Americans believe that cohabitation (living together with a partner before marriage) is a smart step towards a healthy marriage. This idea makes sense right? Why not practice for marriage first and then do it, right? Wrong. Many studies have proven that couple who cohabitate together before marriage are more likely to divorce.?

THE PROBLEM WITH COHABITATION

The problem with cohabitation relationships is that they are mainly based upon personal convenience and sexual pleasure than true love and commitment. The problem with this model is that people who choose cohabitation partners most likely wouldn?t marry that individual in the long run. They choose partners based upon their potentials, and both men and women agree that their standard for a partner to live with is significantly lower than their standard would be for a spouse.

WHY WOMEN COHABITATE

Women mainly cohabitate because they view it is a ?smart? step towards marriage. They have the idea in their mind that the men that they live with today will one day be their husbands in the near future. But this idea is a lie. First the man that they are cohabitating with doesn?t view marriage in the same regards as they do, and second the man would not marry the woman in the long run. If the man is already living with the woman, eating her food, and having sex with her every night, why would the woman think that he would want to marry her? He doesn?t and he won?t, because he?s already getting everything he needs from the relationship.

WHY MEN COHABITATE

Men cohabitate for two reasons, first is to test if the women is going to be marriage material, and second is to postpone commitment. Men who are cohabitating treat women as if they were cars by test driving them to see if they are worthy of marriage (whether that be for personality or sexual relations). And if the woman is not marriage material the man will stay in the cohabitation relationship until the women asks for marriage, then he will leave and go to the next girl.

To expand upon the second idea, most men desire to cohabitate because they want to postpone commitment. Men do not want to be committed to a woman, and cohabitation is an easy way for them not to be.? Cohabitation gives the men all the benefits of a marriage relationship without all of the burdens or responsibilities of having to love and care for a wife.

WHY COHABITATION SEX ISN?T LOVE

People who cohabitate together are usually having sex together. They believe that there is nothing wrong with this because they say ?we are both responsible adults? and ?we can do whatever we want?. Yet the problem with having sex before marriage is that your foundation of your relationship is based upon lust and passion. So the man stays with the woman because she is bringing him some type of physical pleasure and vice versa.

This idea is why so many people who cohabitate end in divorces, lust can only last for so long. Eventually when you are in a relationship with someone, what is going to last is commitment and perseverance to one another, not what one another can do in the bedroom. Having sex with someone that you do not know blinds your eyes so that you do not see them for who they really are.

THE SOLUTION TO THE COHABITATION?DILEMMA

I believe that the solution to the cohabitation dilemma is the same solution that we have had since the beginning of mankind- marriage. It was God?s original design and it?s the only way that true love can be expressed.

Instead of finding a temporary sleeping buddy, we should be looking for companions that we can spend our entire lives with. Therefore we should take time, without sex, to get to know a person first, and then if we find out that we are really in love get married. Both men and women need to be in committed relationships only with those they can see themselves married too, and it takes time to find out if someone is marriage material.

Like I stated in the beginning, studies show that cohabitation partners are more likely to be divorced. So we shouldn?t believe the lies and deception of society that cohabitation is practice for marriage. Instead, we should follow the word of God and pursue marriage they way that God intended for it to be.

East Jerusalem concert nixed after claims of 'normalisation'

The UN Middle East envoy announced on Wednesday the postponement of a concert planned for east Jerusalem, after Palestinian objections to the perceived act of "normalisation".

The West-East Divan Orchestra, co-founded by late Palestinian academic Edward Said and Israeli-Argentine maestro Daniel Barenboim, was to hold a July 31 concert on the Mount of Olives.

But Robert Serry said that the planned concert, which "the United Nations was happy to present", has been "postponed".

The statement issued by Serry's office said that "Noting the objections of some groups it was decided - with regret - not to proceed with present plans for the concert".

Such events, in which Palestinians and Israelis take part, are "a kind of normalisation, at the same time Palestinian rights continue to be ignored", as Rassem Ebidat, coordinator of the National and Civil Work Committee in east Jerusalem, told AFP.

"Instead of sponsoring a concert on the Mount of Olives, Serry should demand that Israel stop confiscating Palestinian lands and building settlements and bases on it," said Ebihat, whose group wrote Serry to protest the concert.

The committee also accused the orchestra of aiming at "building normalisation bridges without acknowledging the Palestinian people's right of self-determination and the right of return, and without the refusal of its (Israeli) members to serve in the Israeli army".

But to Serry, the concert would "have sent a strong message that Palestinians must be able to experience their cultural rights and freedoms in the unique city of Jerusalem, which the United Nations believes must emerge as the open capital of two states, living side by side in peace and security", his statement read.

"Mr. Serry is disappointed that the concert will not go ahead at this stage and that Palestinians in east Jerusalem will not have the opportunity to enjoy such a unique cultural offering in their city," it added.

Chrome (for iPhone)

I was genuinely surprised to read that the new Chrome (for iPhone) commanded a 1.5 percent browser market share among iPhone users within its first month. After all Chrome isn't "real" Chrome, it's just Safari wrapped in Chrome's minimalist interface with a few trademark Chrome features. But it's better designed than Safari, and, if you're (understandably) bored with Safari, it's a great alternative.

Fake Chrome
Wait, Chrome isn't "real" Chrome? A point that my colleague, lead mobile analyst Sascha Segan, has belabored since 2009 is that there's no such thing as an alternative mobile browser to Safari. Almost all of them are simply wrappers over the Safari engine, and Chrome is no exception. Opera Mini (3.5 stars, Free) comes closest to being an alternative browser?it compresses Web pages in its servers, but loading is still done through Safari.

Chrome for iOS isn't as lightning fast as Chrome on an Android device or a PC. Why? Technically Chrome for iOS doesn't have Chrome's speedy V8 JavaScript engine that makes page loading lightning fast. ?

As Fast (Or Slow) As Safari

I went surfing on an AT&T 3G connection and found that Chrome and Safari load times were about the same. Opera Mini was faster for loading search results (thanks to its compressed pages, no doubt), but slower for loading rich Web content.

A search for "cheap hotels Manhattan" took two seconds in Chrome, Safari, and Opera. On a strong AT&T connection, Opera Mini moved twice as fast in real-world testing. A rich page like Radioshack.com averaged 4 seconds to load the mobile version in Chrome, three in Safari, and five in Opera Mini.

Chrome Interface
Chrome for iPhone's key selling point is its slick, minimalist interface. If you're a desktop Chrome user, you're probably already familiar with Chrome's flagship features, such as Incognito browsing, autofilling, and the unified search/address bar (called omnibox). That's all in mobile Chrome too.

Most browsers (except for Safari) feature tabbing, but Chrome does it beautifully. A single tap on the tab icon next to your omnibox opens up a new tab. You can open a seemingly infinite number of tabs and swipe left/right to move from one to the next, or you can flip through them like a Rolodex.

Tabs in Chrome have a functional benefit as well, though that hasn't reached the mobile app yet. In desktop Chrome each tab has a separate rendering processes, which from an end user perspective means that if one tab crashes, or is breached, it doesn't affect any of your other open tabs.

Incognito browsing is another Chrome favorite. This merely lets you browse privately, without saving any pages to your search history or any having any cookies collected.

Under Settings you'll find a few more smart extras than distinguish Chrome from Safari. For instance, you can choose to automatically save passwords, block pop-ups, load desktop versions of websites, and find text within a page.

But for long-time Chrome users, perhaps the best part is Google sync. If you sign into your Chrome account you can see all the bookmarks, browsing history, and even open tabs from your Chrome on other platforms. Even if you have Chrome open on more than one device, this data syncs pretty quickly.

Limited Integration
Like other "alternative browsers" for iOS, Chrome is poorly integrated with other iOS features. You can't make Chrome your default browser, so any URL you click from within a text message or email is automatically opened in Safari. Furthermore the browser doesn't support geolocation features, and you won't find a Flash plug-in. ?

But, ultimately, Chrome for the iPhone is a polished alternative wrapper for long-time Safari users, with a few smart extras. If you use Chrome on a desktop regularly, it's worth a download so you can quickly sync your load all your bookmarks and Google away.

Online (long-distance) relationships. Can THEY marionette out to ...

Just thinking. Sigh, dear Lord..... one fine day will my princess will she come, and, we will be best of friends, and, caring for one another, deeply, despite our dogged and foxish differences. I will find her and put on her lost glass slipper and I will go to the well and she will be there, finally, God will fill this bucket-boy with love and I will no longer be sleepless (alone) in seattle, I will be with my rose of Sharon, sigh, my fox, with me, a hound...

OH, are you listening, miladies, and, notmydudes ? I guess, hmmm, then, I was 'just saying,' wasn't I? And, saying 'it' outLOUD ! Ah, the reverie of romance, dreamily crept did it just creep...

Ok, I've SNAPPED OUT OF IT , so, let's say you really like a girl online you speak to a lot after having got to know her in a relationship, long distance kind, 1000+ miles seperate she and you.
I did like one girl once online, just for example's sake, I spoke with her in PM (private message) all the time on c.c., for a year straight, back in 2007 and, after a year off, 2008 . But I never would go see her, sure, yes, she invited me, in a roundabout way to see her, I knew a lot of her job and life and we connected.....

....but, and, yes, the Lord leads, I was not willing to go see her 1000+ miles away from me. I, personally, in this 3-year span, was financially up and down, and, that did affect my decision not to go see what happens. The Lord was not making it feel right I only knew her by words too, she sent me her picture but I never opened the file. You got mail ! But, no, never did I open it. Ok, just saying....

If all you have is money, from God's gift to you and a flexible job, would you go from, say, Washington to South Carolina, just to MEET a girl ??

Would 'job,' 'money,' influence your 'true love' for this girl/guy? What about 'family,' 'friends'?

_______
Quick confession, I've said this before but, yes, I did watch reality show, ABC's 'The Bachelorette,' this past season, and, Emily, the girl seeking love started off with around 15 guys, and, through weekly elimination, met, in the end, Jeff, a guy with an infectious smile and a knack for making marionettes dance into 'love.' These twos' relationship was not online, 'course, it was popular reality tv show they met, as shows played out in episodes an hour, or, two long, weekly, for 9 weeks, or, so.

So, in the finale of this season's 'The Bachelorette,' Jeff said 'engaging' words to Emily, like below, very close, but I do paraphrase:

Jeff: I know that sometimes things just are right between two people and where God has put two people together in His time, and, this is one of those times. Will you marry me?

Yes, I know, I'm a dead-on romantic at heart, and, I pray The Lord keeps me following Him as shows like 'The Bachelor(ette) can muddy our thinking and make us think we need some well-off hunk or hunkette, think a 'fantasy suite' is,OK (it's not!) and, generally, can cheapen love. Again, I pray The Lord leads you in all you say and do, and, watch, may 'it' bring glory to Him

So, let's rabbit along here and ask you how far would you go IF you met that one you think COULD BE from God, knowing, like Jeff, that you in Arizona living would be NOW going to Emily's North Carolina town to live BEFORE being married, or, just Jeff moving to Emily's area after two are married. And, by the way, this info of never-married Jeff moving TO hometown of married-once Emily (and her six-year-old daughter, Rikki) was learned in the two's plans , from Jimmy Kimmel Live show last night.

How

far would / will you go to find true love?

And, do you understand the responsibility and potential heartache of that kind of long-distance investment ???

Will you, like Jeff, travel 2000, or so, miles from your work and family to her hometown after meeting her ?
Does the real reality show, now, to YOU, of seriousness of understanding all that ARE online relationships, of them potentially sounding almost as unsexy as the responsibility of a single young lady not choosing to go out with guys because for no other reason than she don't want to chance sex leading to being an unwed.....

....mother. And, that reason, with the Lord leading, is reason enough to be AFRAID of even getting into a long distance online relationship? Sure. That is a very real fear for ladies.

Or, for guys, will you really CHOOSE online love of some distance-girl a long ways from your hometown IF it means potentially leaving friends and family a long ways from you ?

God bless you, all, my Christ peeps, for praying always before/during/after all you do and say in life, and, watch, and, of course, for all you kindleholics out there, what you read.

Canon EOS M: It's like a DSLR crammed into a point-and-shoot body

3 hrs.

You can stop looking at leaked photos. The Canon EOS M is finally official.?The little beast of a device marks Canon's entry into the world of mirrorless, interchangeable-lens cameras?? and it's hard not to?love it at first sight.

In a sense, the EOS M is an itty-bitty version of the Rebel?T4i DSLR ? it has the same 18-megapixel APS-C sensor, the same DIGIC 5 image processor, and the same auto-focus technology. It just happens to be?the size of some point-and-shoots, rather than a typical DSLR.

While the EOS M is intended to go into competition against mirrorless?cameras from the likes of?Olympus, Panasonic, Sony and Nikon, it's worth noting that among those, only Sony's NEX line has a DSLR sensor like the Canon. The rest use smaller sensors, which allows for smaller lenses and a more compact experience overall, but it may limit quality.

And like those other mirrorless cameras, video is more than an afterthought.?According to the folks at Canon, the EOS M will be a little video powerhouse. The camera?offers a full HD mode, with continuous focus tracking.?It can shoot 1080p video at 24, 25, or 30 frames per second.?There are built-in stereo microphones and room to plug in an external microphone as well (though there's no headphone jack).

As far as the still image side of things goes,?the EOS M will put point-and-shoots to shame but?may not excite serious shooters too much. It can handle low-light situations quite well, but?it lacks an optical viewfinder and some of the controls shutterbugs might crave.

While the EOS M has its own lens mount, and therefore its own line of lenses, its appeal grows by leaps when you add in the Mount Adapter EF-EOS M, a little $200 accessory that makes the camera compatible with all of Canon's EF and EF-S lenses.

Yes, that's pretty darn awesome. You can read more about that detail?? as well as the rest of the EOS M specs?? on Canon's website.

The Canon EOS M?will be available in October, for $800, and include an EF-M 22mm f/2.0 STM kit lens. The camera will be offered in black and white versions. (The white model will only be available through Canon's own online store.) ?The?mount adapter?will be available in October as well.

Green Jobs Gone Bust

Obama?s green investments drown in red ink.

?We?ll invest $15 billion a year over the next decade in renewable energy, creating five million new green jobs that pay well, can?t be outsourced, and help end our dependence on foreign oil,? candidate Barack Obama pledged in a radio address on November 1, 2008. Three years and eight months later, as unemployment has exceeded 8 percent for 41 straight months, Obama seems incapable of keeping this promise. With the worst employment figures since at least 1948, when the Bureau of Labor Statistics started measuring them, Obama has made a dog?s breakfast of jobs ? green and otherwise.

Consider three key Department of Energy programs. DOE?s website boasts that its ?clean energy? initiatives ? dubbed 1703, 1705, and Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) ? loaned $34.7 billion and launched ?nearly 60,000? jobs. This totals a staggering $578,333 per position.

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, private employers pay workers, on average, $62,757 annually in wages and benefits. So, Obama is ?creating jobs? at 922 percent of the private sector?s cost of employing workers for a year. For every green job that Obama supposedly spawns with taxpayer dollars and borrowed Chinese money, private enterprises could hire nine people.

Knock Them Down a Peg (Private)

Private Harry Potter Roleplay between myself and Child of the Winged.

Whilst he was known as a Hufflepuff with behaviour typical for those of his house, Jacob Wright was by no means a person who would willingly side with Dumbledore, The Ministry of Magic or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Jacob was born to muggle parents and had a strangely twisted outlook on how the Wizarding World should be run. His opinions were an odd mix between the solid opinions of Lord Voldemort and Albus Dumbledore. He believed that muggles should be allowed to live in peace and oblivious to the Wizarding World (sans the immediate families of muggle-born children), but more care should be taken into keeping it that way. The Statue of Secrecy was not perfect, or even close to it and Jacob didn't like that one bit. Also, the Ministry of Magic was horribly corrupt - filled with politicians who did not look out for the best of the people as a whole, but for people themselves. He wanted to do so much more, but those little details could wait until the bigger picture was finalised.

What Jacob wanted to do was...to take the Wizarding World by storm. Destroy every piece of the existing government and rebuild it piece by piece - shape it to become the world that he would want his children to grow up in, so to say. It was his dream, his ambition.

So, so un-Hufflepuff like. Or the general public would believe.

Jacob didn't care. He would do it, one day. Already, he was slowly working towards his goal - together with his partner-in-crime Aisling. The girl was a Ravenclaw and the grand-daughter of the Dark Wizard Grindelwald. Jacob believed that Grindelwald - although not perfect by any means - had some good ideas and values that the Hufflepuff took to heart. "For the Greater Good" was a quote etched in his heart that he followed to the letter.

Some would say that Jacob did not belong in the House of Badger, judging from his ambition. But Hufflepuff qualities were trustworthyness and loyalty, not necessarily being good. He was trustworthy just as he was loyal - just to a select few people. His family and friends by most part. It was a good thing that only one person knew of his dream, that person being Aisling. No one else knew and Jacob could continue to blend into the background as 'just another Hufflepuff' while Harry Potter and his Gryffindor friends gathered all the attention to themselves.
